A (rather large) Missing Piece in the Climate Change Debate

Deception, collusion, intimidation, censorship, ostracism, suppression of evidence in the scientific community? We should all be shocked, shouldn’t we? Not really. The recent release of e-mails from some of the leading climate change scientists is about far more than questionable scientific practice, it reveals a left-wing conspiracy that “naturally” derives from an evolutionary understanding of the world. That people are shocked by the degree of unethical behavior surrounding the “fact” of man-made global warming (MMGW) merely reflects how successful evolutionary science—with a lot of help from the mass media and financing from U.S. taxpayers—has been at creating a false perception of itself in the public mind. Like recent revelations about Tiger Woods, the current climate change controversy merely exposes the endemic corruption that infests most of the scientific community and the “fact” of evolution.

As clearly exposed in Ben Stein’s documentary, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, tactics employed by the MMGW crowd are simply the standard operating procedures of Darwinian science. For those who didn’t see the film, it focused on the absolute intolerance in our academic and scientific communities for anyone, including journalists, who dare to question the so-called “fact” of evolution or even display a willingness to discuss the positive or negative merits of alternative theories like intelligent design (ID), much less creation. Regardless of their credentials or however innocently they committed this “cardinal sin,” those who depart from the evolutionary party line are not only vilified and summarily fired, but their reputations are utterly destroyed, all in the name of science. (If drawing and quartering were still allowed, one guesses it would be too light a punishment for these infidels.) In short, disagree with Darwin and you are done.

Some view the man-made global warming movement is the latest incarnation of communism, but it goes much deeper than that. In fact, its roots can be traced directly to Darwinian evolution or Social Darwinism, the same theory that led to the growth of atheistic humanism, communism and socialism in the 20th century. Much as evolution provided a convenient rationale (i.e., no God, survival of the fittest) for the supremacy of the state, the redistribution of wealth and the creation of a master race with the necessary elimination of inferior “undesirables,” like Jews, the ideology of MMGW is predicated on arrogant, man-centered godlessness. Nor is it an accident that the greatest impetus for the regulation of so-called “greenhouse gases” comes from Europe, the most secularized continent on earth. Unfortunately, much as the scientifically “justified” racism practiced by the Nazis was supported by American scientists under the banner of eugenics (leading to the sterilization of some 50,000 black men), the evolutionary scientific community in the U.S has once again fallen in line and is aggressively promoting the MMGW mantra. And why not? MMGW is after all the “consensus” of their evolutionary comrades across the pond—the same kind of “consensus” that promotes evolution as a fact. Having for decades practiced censorship and the politics of personal destruction against scientists (and others) who disagree with evolution, it is a perfectly natural progression. Having eliminated the need for God, evolutionary science generally operates in a moral vacuum where the highest ethic is only what is good for them.

Among the many MMGW skeptics both within science and without, the Creation Studies Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, takes a different view. CSI executive director Tom DeRosa has written presciently on this subject a number of times. Here are portions of one of his recent newsletters:

Do you ever have a sense that we live in very confused times? Do you see an agenda being pushed that will affect not just you but the whole world? Is this planet in eminent danger of climate change (global warming) caused by man? Are CO2 emissions that we are responsible for to blame for a total worldwide catastrophe causing the glaciers to melt, rising ocean levels and destructive flooding killing millions? Do you feel like you are going to explode as you hear the constant refrains of man-induced carbon dioxide levels, global warming, carbon footprints and taxes going up? Are you concerned about government policies that will needlessly put costly controls on every citizen in the country? Is Christ in the center of this, or do you observe a godless agenda being pushed forth that worships the creation rather than Creator? Do you fear that this agenda will be adopted and feel helpless to stop it? Are we believers just going to lie down and do nothing about it, or do we move forward with the power of Christ, exposing the myth of global warming and the godless agenda that perpetuates it?

…With the myth of global warming produced by man’s carbon dioxide emissions being advanced by powerful forces, many different environmental policies are being considered that will have a devastating economic impact on our country—especially during these difficult financial times—and affect everyone’s pocket book and personal life. An example of this is the “Cap and Trade” bill that Congress is presently debating, which, if passed, will be approved by the president—with horrific consequences.

The force behind this movement is an irrational reverence for nature held by environmental extremists. Many of these misguided souls feel that it is a moral imperative to act, because they have been brainwashed by misinformation promulgated in the mass media, by many in the scientific community and even in our public schools. For these nature worshippers “saving the planet” has become a spiritual quest, as exemplified by former Vice President Al Gore’s book, Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit. Throughout this publication Gore reiterates the message that man is separated from his environment and that until this “wall of separation” is crossed, man will not be spiritually fulfilled. Gore leads the Global Warming Movement with a religious fervor that has accumulated great momentum. Like a truck barreling down a mountain road without any brakes, this godless agenda threatens to do much damage….

Environmental hysteria puts our planet in danger by encouraging people to turn not to God for help but to ourselves. It is grounded in evolutionary thinking, which historically has taken God out of the equation and gives nature (and man) all the power. Thus, it blames mankind as the real villains who, by their greed, will ruin the planet with CO2 emissions. We who confess Christ are aware of sin and understand the greed factor; however, knowing the dictates of Scripture should also provide us with a greater sense of perspective and balance. We understand that God created man to responsibly rule over the earth….To destroy this gift through pollution and by putting harmful chemicals into the air certainly is a violation of God’s command, and we have a responsibility to minimize this kind of damage to our world. Nonetheless, the proper hierarchal order in life is God-Man-Earth, not the reverse! Those who have lost sight of God walk in darkness and have no true sense of balance. By eliminating the Almighty from the equation, they put earth first and have become crazed with passionate, illogical urgency—always a dangerous condition. But contrary to what Al Gore proclaims, rather that being separated from the environment, mankind is unfulfilled and imperiled by being separated from God.

I believe that our home—planet earth—is the only place in the universe graced with life, and that our Creator made it with great resilience. When one considers all the conditions that must be met to maintain life, including weather, the logical conclusion is that this planet occupies a uniquely privileged place in the cosmos. The fact that 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water helps keep our atmosphere stabilized, and is the source of rain and water vapor that creates a protective layer over the earth that keeps the heat in. This vapor canopy acts like a blanket, making the lower atmosphere warmer and the upper atmosphere cooler. It contains other gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, in much smaller quantities but water predominates, making up 70–90% of its composition. And the CO2 it does possess is overwhelmingly produced by natural forces, with only 3% derived from man-made sources. This reality alone shows that man’s contribution to global warming is insignificant.

….Climate forecasting is all about trends with lines going up and down on weather charts with fluctuations always expected. As you may recall, the 1970’s were full of warnings about another impending Ice Age, due to a period of “global cooling” from the 1940’s to the 1970’s. One thousand years ago, during the Medieval Warming Period (1000-1200 AD), the average temperatures were higher than the present. And the 14th century is known as the beginning of the “Little Ice Age,” from which the earth has been gradually emerging since the 1700’s. So, in addition to mankind’s tiny carbon “footprint,” the doomsday argument of global warming also falls short in the light of historic weather patterns.

Roy Spencer, a meteorologist from the University of Alabama and former Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA, states, “Based upon experiences with weather forecasting and watching the weather, we view the climate system as being self-regulating.” He speaks out against man-made climate change in his book entitled, Climate Confusion (2008), and tells us to beware of doomsayers: “That the earth’s climate system is proudly the mostly complex physical system we know of should, by itself, humble the climate scientists.” Those who do possess a little humility understand that God created a resilient earth. Certainly man is to care for it, but ultimately God is in charge. He did not create to our planet to be a desolate wasteland but to be inhabited. He is the Lord of the earth and wisely put its self-regulating forces in place….

If the drumbeat of “man-made climate change” leads to laws regulating CO2 emissions it will cost our nation dearly. Stephen Schneider, a climatologist from Stanford University advocates for this type of action by asking emotion-laden questions, such as: “Do we love our children more than we love our grandchildren ...[leaving] them a legacy of biotic impoverishment, species extinction, higher sea levels, fires, droughts, heat waves…Is this worth the risk? It will take trillions of dollars of investment to fix it.”…This kind of baseless fear mongering strives to create urgency and promote climate change policies that will require huge financial sacrifices. This is where the rubber meets the road. There is an enormous amount of behind-the-scenes brokering going on worldwide to “fix” this mythical problem, with wealthy nations like ours expected to finance the effort to “save the planet.”…

A great deal of the misinformation being used to sell the public on the supposed doomsday effect of global warming is little more than “junk science.” Fallacies about man-made climate change saturate the popular media, which in large part has no room for a Creator or Savior, and are arrogantly promoted with one-sided arguments. First, they falsely blame mankind for the problem, and then proclaim that man can resolve it and save the world. Such falsehoods are even finding their way into our public school curricula and national science standards, and we have a responsibility to our culture and our children to point out that “[this] emperor has no clothes.”

Obviously, the missing piece in the MMGW debate is the Creator, a loving God who created this planet for life and wisely put in place self-regulating processes designed to sustain it, until He decides to end it. Indeed, in the book of Romans the Bible states of those like Al Gore, “Professing to be wise, they became fools…who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator….” (Rom. 1:22;25). To read DeRosa’s entire letter, go to www.creationstudies.org. CSI also offers a number of resources on climate change that present the other side of the argument, including a DVD titled, Global Warming: Merging Science and Understanding.

However great the threat to our freedoms MMGW represents, the far greater threat to our basic human rights is evolution itself. In a nation where the vast majority of citizens believe in a Creator, why do billions of our tax dollars every year go to underwrite the ceaseless promotion of the scientific “consensus” of evolution (along with man-made global warming) as a fact in our public school system, in the mass media and by government agencies—with those same tax dollars forbidden from being used to publicly acknowledge any existence of God whatsoever? If you are shocked and angered about the scientific deceptions behind the “fact” of global warming and fear the potential government controls and loss of freedoms Cap and Trade legislation promises to impose, how much more outraged should you be about your tax dollars being used to indoctrinate your children and grandchildren about the “fact” of evolution day in and day out? Beyond that, if the “unalienable rights” we enjoy in this country are predicated on the existence of a Creator as stated in our Constitution, we might also want to ask ourselves how long those rights (freedom of religion, free speech, academic freedom etc.) will endure when our government outlaws any public recognition of that Creator. Merry Christmas, er…that is, Happy Solstice Season to all in our one nation under Darwin!

Global warming fever: ecology or tax opportunity?

During Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s service as U.S. Senator from Colorado, home to my wife and me along with much of our family, I attempted to communicate with him several times to share facts about global warming running counter to his predisposition to be threat-to-peace Al Gore’s clone. I am virtually certain all these communications were short-stopped by the staffer through whom I had been instructed to communicate with the senator.

One of those included this: "Even if Sen. Salazar supports raising taxes, I am confident he is honest enough to say that directly rather than sliding through an enormous tax increase like the carbon cap scheme having a colossal fraud as its entire support."

Well, I lied a little in that I have no such confidence in Salazar’s integrity. Nor did I have it when that was written in December 2008.

Salazar's successor, Michael Bennet, isn't starting out any better. Three attempts over a month to get his attention with e-mails at his website have drawn the same boilerplate: "Hearing from Coloradans is important to me. I will respond to your concerns in the near future." Wouldn't one expect "near future" to fall within a month?

I now believe what was initially a bonanza for grant-seeking scientists has become the pot at the end of the rainbow for elected officials, bureaucrats and the left generally, all sensing here a stupendously large (and economically ruinous) source of revenue. That Gore and a number of sly business executives have also figured out how to make billions buying and selling carbon emissions "rights" is also worth our notice.

The Nobel Committee’s decision to give Gore the Peace Prize ranks right up there with its earlier decision to give one to Yasser Arafat. Read more Gore, propaganda and "peace" here.

Al Gore and an AGW cornucopia at Investor’s Business Daily

Investor's Business Daily has published dozens of fine, informative editorials on the global warming contriversy. Suffice to say that Al Gore's claim of the "debate being over" is rather a stretch. The link below will take the reader to an index, with further links to IBD's material on this subject.

Al Gore slipping badly

Rasmussen Reports has released results of a new poll on global warming. The American public is coming around to believing that long-term planetary trends, not activities of mankind, are the cause of global warming.

In less than a year, the percentage blaming mankind has dropped from 47 to 41 percent while belief that it is planetary trends jumped from 34 to 44 percent.

Former Vice President Al Gore famously claims the debate is over and mankind is the culprit. It looks to us as if the debate is just warming up!

Nobel Gaffe – Peace Laureate Gore Is a Threat to Peace

The following article by Rocky Mountain Foundation president John Dendahl originally appeared at www.familysecuritymatters.com and is reprinted here with permission of that Web publisher.

Nobel Gaffe – Peace Laureate Gore Is a Threat to Peace

By John Dendahl

On November 28, 2007, while ruminating on Al Gore’s astonishingly successful deceit (about which more below), I jotted some thoughts “on the back of an envelope.”

I noted that one of the great ironies of 2007 was Gore's sharing the Nobel Peace Prize. Gore’s climate change crusade, it seems to me, is a threat to peace. In fact, if the Nobel Committee’s current members could be transported back in time to about 1938, one might see another master propagandist, Leni Riefenstahl, similarly honored. Maybe sharing the prize with Neville “Peace in Our Time” Chamberlain.

(Riefenstahl produced Triumph of the Will and other propaganda for Adolph Hitler, but avoided conviction at Nuremberg for war crimes by convincing judges that her fascination with Hitler’s Nazis didn’t include knowledge of their Final Solution or concentration camp atrocities.)

The point there wasn’t to compare Gore to Hitler.  The point is that history is riddled with wishful thinking as to what will lead to peace. To be generous, let’s just say the Nobel Committee’s track record of late has been spotty.

While I would love to claim clairvoyance, I won’t.  About two weeks later, however, on December 10, Gore actually received his prize in Oslo and gave a speech in which a Wall Street Journal Web newsletter reported he “[warned] that world leaders who give short shrift to the issue of global warming are the equivalent of ‘those who ignored Adolf Hitler's threat’ in the 1930s.” Adolph Hitler, eh?

There can be little doubt that the world leader first and foremost in Gore’s mind there is the man who defeated him in 2000 to become President of the United States, George W. Bush. His mention of Hitler is a clever reminder of slanderous comparisons of Bush to Hitler made from time to time by Gore’s political teammates like George Soros and MoveOn.org.

Gore has opened a huge question as to which position on climate change is the better fit for recalling Hitler, his or Bush’s. Leave aside the Nazis’ Final Solution of which Riefenstahl claimed no knowledge, and consider only Hitler’s quest for world domination. According to the source cited above, in his December 10 speech Gore “called for ratification of a United Nations treaty capping carbon emissions worldwide that would take effect everywhere at the start of 2010. Heads of state from every major country, he insisted, should meet every three months until the treaty is brought into effect. A worldwide tax on CO2 would also be required ...” Does this not sound like someone seeking world domination for his environmentalist views?

Gore is the cheerleader for a pernicious worldwide fraud, a 21st century threat that must not be ignored.

One reads ad nauseam these days that “the debate is over,” that scientific consensus now includes all but an insignificant fringe, that Earth is warming with apocalyptic potential, and that the warming is caused by mankind (mainly producing the dreaded “greenhouse” gas carbon dioxide – CO2 – by burning carbonaceous fuels like wood, methanol, oil, natural gas and coal). Hmmm. Sounds to me like the diversionary tactic of a bunch of scoundrels about to get whipped in debate by opponents who are just now getting warmed up (not intended here as a pun).

Item: In April 2006, Richard Lindzen, Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, wrote in The Wall Street Journal about shocking corruption among some in the scientific community, hell bent on silencing science-based challenges to the government-grant-rich orthodoxy of global warming.

Item: At the end of his brilliant novel State of Fear, the scientifically trained (and, sadly, recently deceased) Michael Crichton presented 1) an Author’s Message thoughtfully addressing how “astonishingly little” we know “about every aspect of the environment ...” and 2) an Appendix discussing “Why Politicized Science Is Dangerous.” In the latter, Crichton reminded readers of the overwhelming scientific and political consensus that surrounded the “science” of eugenics a century ago. Those, like me, in need of a refresher can read it here. Crichton said,

“... [eugenics’] history is so dreadful—and, to those who were caught up in it, so embarrassing—that it is now rarely discussed. But it is a story that should be well known to every citizen, so that its horrors are not repeated.”

Item: Political scientist and author Bjørn Lomborg, Director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, lines up with those who believe human activity contributes to global warming but exposes Gore as an alarmist selling snake oil. Here is Lomborg in an article published recently in The Vancouver Sun:

“The fear of Armageddon stifles sensible dialogue. Those who dare question the alarmist rhetoric are labeled ‘climate change deniers.’ This is typically used as a catch-all for anybody who doesn't accept the standard interpretation that mankind is to blame for global warming and that we should cut CO2 emissions dramatically.

“Proponents of such drastic cuts seldom mention their cost. Read Al Gore's entire book and watch his whole movie: You won't find a single mention of the cost of seriously addressing global warming.

“The best estimate is that the Kyoto Protocol will stop about 4,000 heat-caused deaths in developing nations by the middle of this century. This will come at the humongous cost of $180 billion a year. Without the Kyoto Protocol, there would be many, many fewer cold-related deaths.”

Item: Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth got him nominated for the Nobel and won him an Oscar from the Motion Picture Academy for “Best Documentary.” Some documentary. Christopher Monckton of Brenchley, an advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, has published an analysis titled “35 Inconvenient Truths, The Errors in Al Gore’s Movie.” In there, we find that Gore exaggerated by up to 10,000 percent potential sea level changes; lied that global warming is melting the snow on Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro; lied that global warming caused Hurricane Katrina; lied about polar bears drowning while seeking ice melted away by global warming; and so on.

Pure, unalloyed deceit.

Stewart Dimmock, the parent of two school-aged children, sued education authorities in England, alleging they illegally distributed Gore’s “documentary” to classrooms throughout the country. Noting the film’s serious errors presented to him, Judge Michael Burton ordered that a revised “Guidance Note” accompany the film, presumably in the hope that teachers would correct for their students the gross misimpressions it creates. Burton said, “... as will be seen, some of the errors, or departures from the mainstream, by Mr Gore ... do arise in the context of alarmism and exaggeration in support of his political thesis.”

Exaggeration in support of a political thesis is, by definition, propaganda. So much for the myth that An Inconvenient Truth is documentary. Gore is simply a better-groomed Michael Moore.

What does all this have to do with security?

Diversion. Remember Gore’s December 10 speech insisting on a U.N. treaty and quarterly meetings among the heads of state of every major country until it is brought into effect? Most reading articles at this site are riveted on today’s challenges, like Islamofascism and nukes coming into the hands of megalomaniacal dictators. Gore’s alarmist coterie of scientists haven’t even validated the models on which their predictions are based, let alone demonstrated that the remedial actions they propose are likely to succeed, economically practical, and best among alternatives – or any of the three.

Leaders of the world’s major countries need to keep their focus (and our resources) on the right urgent problems.

International rivalries. Just who is going to command, say, China and India to curtail use of CO2-producing fuels during this period of their rapid economic growth and prosperity? Are other countries supposed to stand down to compensate for their emissions? It is evident after ten years that most signatories to Gore’s beloved Kyoto Protocol aren’t meeting their own agreed CO2 emission targets. What kind of real international trouble would follow Gore’s new directive at a time of quite fierce international competition for energy resources?

Prosperity. The suffering that accompanies poverty is among the drivers of insecurity around the world. Vaclav Klaus, president of the Czech Republic, has written eloquently that “ambitious environmentalism is the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity.”

Al Gore, zealous environmentalist and master propagandist, is a threat to world peace.
